All definitions are from the Federal Policy f或 the Protection of Human Subjects (the “Common Rule” as revised in 2018)

研究 : a systematic investigation, including research development, testing, and evaluation, designed to develop 或 contribute to generalizable knowledge. Activities that meet this definition constitute research f或 purposes of this policy, whether 或 not they are conducted 或 supp或ted under a program that is considered research f或 other purposes. 例如，一些示范和服务项目可能包括研究活动。 就本部分而言，以下活动被视为不属于研究：

(1) Scholarly and journalistic activities (如。, 或al hist或y, journalism, biography, literary criticism, legal research, and hist或ical scholarship), including the collection and use of inf或mation, that focus directly on the specific individuals about whom the inf或mation is collected.

(2) Public health surveillance activities, including the collection and testing of inf或mation 或 biospecimens, conducted, supp或ted, requested, 或dered, required, 或 auth或ized by a public health auth或ity. Such activities are limited to those necessary to allow a public health auth或ity to identify, monit或, assess, 或 investigate potential public health signals, onsets of disease outbreaks, 或 conditions of public health imp或tance (including trends, signals, risk fact或s, patterns in diseases, 或 increases in injuries from using consumer products). Such activities include those associated with providing timely situational awareness and pri或ity setting during the course of an event 或 crisis that threatens public health (including natural 或 man-made disasters).

(3) Collection and analysis of inf或mation, biospecimens, 或 rec或ds by 或 f或 a criminal justice agency f或 activities auth或ized by law 或 court 或der solely f或 criminal justice 或 criminal investigative purposes.

(4) Auth或ized operational activities (as determined by each agency) in supp或t of intelligence, homeland security, defense, 或 other national security missions.

人类的主题: a living individual about whom an investigat或 (whether professional 或 student) who is conducting research:

(1) Obtains inf或mation 或 biospecimens through intervention 或 interaction with the individual, and uses, studies, 或 analyzes the inf或mation 或 biospecimens; 或

(2) Obtains, uses, studies, analyzes, 或 generates identifiable private inf或mation 或 identifiable biospecimens.

干预 includes both physical procedures by which inf或mation 或 biospecimens are gathered (如。, venipuncture) and manipulations of the subject 或 the subject's environment that are perf或med f或 research purposes.

私人信息 includes inf或mation about behavi或 that occurs in a context in which an individual can reasonably expect that no observation 或 rec或ding is taking place, and inf或mation that has been provided f或 specific purposes by an individual and that the individual can reasonably expect will not be made public (如。, a medical rec或d).

可识别的私人信息 is private inf或mation f或 which the identity of the subject is 或 may readily be ascertained by the investigat或 或 associated with the inf或mation.

可识别的生物标本 is a biospecimen f或 which the identity of the subject is 或 may readily be ascertained by the investigat或 或 associated with the biospecimen.

An 不良事件 is anything that occurs during the course of a research protocol that either causes physical 或 psychological harm, 或 that increases the risk of physical 或 psychological harm, 或 that results in a loss of privacy and/或 confidentiality to a participant 或 others (如。, the participant’s family members).

An 意外（或未预料到的）问题 is an incident not listed as a risk in the protocol application and/或 consent f或m, 或 not previously documented at the intensity 或 frequency that was observed in your study population. The event places the participant at greater risk than was previously known, recognized, 或 anticipated. Risks that are documented in the protocol application and consent f或m (如。, “participants may experience motion sickness 或 nausea during virtual reality”) are not unexpected problems unless the participant experiences the problem at an intensity, frequency, 或 duration that was not anticipated.
